Autum - Mushroom season

Nearby where I live, there is a beautiful nature park with lots of walking paths of different lengths. We usually walk the 7 km path through the beautiful forest. The landscape varies with fields, trees and lakes. It has become my favourite spot to walk these days.



In Sweden the fungus season is on. Myself, I am not a fungus person and would never dare to eat anything I have picked myself. However, I can enjoy looking at them. Especially, the beautiful, but very poisonous fly agaric.



On days like these, autumn is lovely. Wonderful colours when the leaves of the trees change from green to red, orange and yellow. The moss under the tall trees looks like velvet. The beams of the sun tries to shine through the leaves. A walk in such surroundings is a treat and you feel so good afterwords.

Visiting Florence, Italy

To celebrate my birthday in mid-February, I visited Florence, Italy for three days. We were lucky to get out of there just before the coronavirus started to spread. It is one of my favourite cities to visit. Apart from visiting the wonderful museums, houses, and art, it is a pleasure just to walk the streets. It takes you back to the Italian renaissance and the glory of this city. We stayed at a small B&B just neighbouring Il Duomo. What a view to wake up to in the morning! There were many tourists and the line to get into the dom was too long for us to try. I have seen it during an earlier visit. It is a beauty just to walk around from the outside. The building started in 1296 in the Gothic style, and with a design by Arnolfo di Cambio. It was not completed until 140 years later in 1436 when the dom was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. Excursions in the vicinity

Here in Sweden, we continue to self-isolate. Venturing out for errands, shopping, and excursions. If one should seek a positive angle for the present situation, it is that we have so much time on our hands. In the last 20-23 years, we have been very busy, and time has been a rare commodity. We, therefore, appreciate it a lot. It has also given us the opportunity to discover our new surroundings. I think we would not have discovered so many wonderful places had times been normal.  The Skåne (Scania) area where we live has a lot of nature parks, forests, and seashores. It is all there to enjoy. Here are a few photos from our latest outings.  The modern-day Falsterbohus, today housing flats. In the foreground the ruins of the ancient fortress.  There are lots of castles in this area. They are mostly beautifully situated around a lake. One of our favourites is Häckeberga Castle. The Morrione Duel

 One of my favourite composer of film music, is Ennio Morricone. Unfortunately, I have not been able to see him live. Still hoping to find the place and opportunity. In the meantime, I had to settle with Malmö Symphony Orchestra and its interpretation of his music. It was great fun. His best film music, I think, is the the themes from the Dollar movies. They are just so great! Such music is at its best, being played by a Symphony Orchestra. It took place at Malmö Live, the city's concert hall. The hall has great acoustics and made it into a memorable evening.

The Content Reader Goes Outdoors

You might wonder what this is all about? Well, after blogging for seven years on The Content Reader , it is time to look back and see what I have done. Blogging has been a wonderful experience for me. Exchanging views on books are a treat, and I really appreciate the very dedicated audience out there. Reaching out all over the world and to experience readers in other countries, has also enriched my own reading. I have ventured into books I would never have read otherwise. Well, I had to make sure it was true!  I have mixed my book blog The Content Reader with other interests of mine; travelling, history, outdoors, sports etc. After having had a very outdoor holiday this year, camping in Switzerland, Italy and Sweden, I wanted to share these memories with you. A visit to Glimmingehus

Glimmingehus is a medieval castle located about an hour's drive from my home. If due to the coronavirus or not, only guided tours are available, every hour. I came 15 min before the first tour at 11 am, and got a ticket for the 1 pm tour. I spent the waiting time visiting the small, but interesting museum, walking around the castle, visiting the herb's garden, and the small park surrounding the estate. As I always have a book in my bag, I sat down at a picnic area to read while waiting for the tour to begin.  I always find guided tours interesting. They will tell you a little bit more about the history and the lives of the people living there. The estate has quite an interesting story, and we were treated with information about past and present times.  Glimmingehus was built 1499-1506, during an era when this place was part of Denmark. Out of my comfort zone

They all say that sometime you have to go outside your comfort zone. Well, I tried it on Saturday. Båstad Hiking Weekend is an annual event, which we tried out last year. They offer around 15 hiking tours with different themes. This year we choose an adventure theme; In the Foot Steps of the 'Snapphanar'. The following from Wikipedia on what a 'snapphane' is. "A snapphane was a member of a 17th-century pro-Danish guerrilla organisation that fought against the Swedes in the Second Northern and Scanian Wars, primarily in the former eastern Danish provinces which in the course of these wars became southern Sweden. Many pro-Danish guerrilla fighters referred to themselves as friskydter, i.e. volunteer militiamen. During the Scanian War, many Scanians who lived in the western part of Scania could quite easily join the regular Danish army, after the 1676 Danish re-conquest of the province. Sunset

I have been living in several countries and always enjoyed a beautiful sunset. Sweden might not be the best country to see a magnificent sunset, but I was surprised one evening returning home. I am not sure the pictures tell the absolute truth, it was breathtaking. I hope the some of the feelings can be felt from the photos.
